"As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

WELCA MEETING SEPT 29

WELCA Meeting.gif 20.4KB 2007/09/17 09:51

What are the women of Emanuel doing?

Do some belong to the altar guild where they help prepare communion,

care for the candles and seasonal church decorations?

Do they belong to a Bible study group?

Are some quilting?

Do some provide loving support for families who have lost a loved one

by preparing and serving receptions for memorial services or funerals?

Do some make school kits or do other projects for Lutheran World Relief?

Do you consider yourself a member of Women of the ELCA?

Well, if you are a woman and a member of Emanuel, you should!

All the women members of Emanuel Lutheran Church are also

members of WELCA!

This is not a "one size fits all" organization. At one time it was considered

an auxiliary of the church; however, this has not been the case since the

formation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1987. Our

WELCA group is called a "unit", but we are part of the whole church

doing our part for the sake of the Gospel, with a focus on women.

The mission statement of WELCA is:

"To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ."

Emanuel Women of the ELCA participate in many activities, including:

  • Quilting
  • Spring Rummage Sale
  • Lutheran World Relief projects
  • Bethany Circle

The funds raised by these activities benefit local low-income families,

a variety of charitable activities and mission projects, as well as

financing maintenance projects around our own church building

and grounds.

Emanuel's WELCA holds their general meeting in the fall but meet at

other times for special functions and projects. All are welcome.
