MUSIC DIRECTOR - JEREMY KASTINE
Jeremy Kastine was recently hired to be our permanent Music Director.
He will provide instrumental music (piano and organ) for our services,
and direct the choir. Jeremy sent us this information to introduce himself:
I'm 22 years old and I've lived in NE Portland my entire life. My mother is an
organist and pianist. She taught my brother, sister and me to play piano when we were in
elementary school. But I eventually lost interest when I began playing clarinet and later
trumpet in the school band. After high school I went to Mt. Hood Community College to study
music. During my second year there, I learned to play violin and started playing in the
orchestra. I also began taking voice lessons and singing in the choir. About a year and a half
ago my vocal teacher told me about a church in Sandy that was looking for an organist.
Though I had no experience playing organ, I decided to give it a shot. I practiced very hard
and got the job. It was then that I realized that a degree in music is not really a necessity
for me so I switched my major to math. My career goals are to become a college-level math
teacher and to continue as a church organist for many years to come.
