WELCA (Women of the ELCA)
All women who are members of Emanuel Lutheran Church are members of WELCA. This group meets at various times that are published in the bulletins, newsletters, and on this web site. Family and friends are invited to participate in all our activities.
BETHANY CIRCLE
This group of women meet monthly at noon, usually in the Parish Hall for a brown bag
lunch. Pastor Karl leads them in a study taken from the magazine Lutheran Women
Today, and they enjoy a lively discussion as they explore what it means to be a
faithful Christian woman in today's world. They also do several service projects during
the year, from a kitchen "shower" (replenishing small kitchen items like dish soap
and towels), to cookies for shut ins at Christmas. All women are invited to participate,
regardless of whether they are members of Emanuel.
MEN'S BREAKFAST CLUB
The men gather at the Forest Grove Senior Center for a hearty breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
on the third Tuesday of the month. They swap stories, tell jokes, enjoy a bit of study,
and build a sense of being on the same team as men of faith. All men are welcome to
join in the fun.
QUILTERS
If you can draw a line around a piece of wood, tie a knot, or use a pair of scissors,
you are welcome to join the women who meet at the church every Thursday morning
at 9 a.m. Of course, if you are an experienced quilter, you will be greeted with delight.
These ladies make over 150 quilts a year, giving most away to charity, while some
are given to church members on special occasions, such as a child's baptism. They
always pause mid-morning for a delicious home-made treat before they return to
their tasks, finishing around 11 a.m. No reservations necessary -just show up and
you'll be worked into the pattern of their tasks.
